The Importance of Finding Your Voice as an Author.

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

Every writer has a unique style, and there’s no right or wrong way to write. Your voice says

everything about you as an author. You could be the next Stephen King or George Orwell, but if you don’t find your unique voice, then you may not get published at all!

I like you, am still growing on this journey to authorship, and for many years have struggled with the dilemma of not knowing my voice. Using quotes and lists is okay but to really drive your point home your voice is required.

It takes time and practice to get it right, but most importantly it takes confidence! If you aren’t confident in your writing ability, then how will anyone else believe in you? That’s why so many people are afraid of taking the plunge into writing. They don’t want others to judge their work because they know that about half of all their writings exude the voice of another.

You have to find your voice and stick with it, because if you don’t then how can anyone else tell what kind of a writer you are? I know that isn’t easy, but the more time you put in the better it becomes.

I am still working on this, but I understand its significance. So now when I read an article or blog post that has been written by someone else I look for those little details about their writing that make me say, “Oh that’s her!”

I know I may sound like a broken record, but the key is to find your voice and stick with it. You have to believe in yourself first, if you don’t then no one else will either.

Good luck everyone and remember, the first step is always the hardest.
